meandering things making me happy.

I’ve done a Monthly Meanderings for a real long time. It’s a way for me to be your internet tour guide show you all the things I’ve read / heard / watched recently. Until next time keep in touch on Facebook & Instagram or maybe explore the archive of my podcast or read my book.

-Listening to this made me really happy. Half way through I started it over just because I didn’t want it to be over. Just hearing his voice instantly calms me.

Things specifically I gleaned from it:

“I try to orient my life in a spiritual context.”

The concept of résumé virtues vs. eulogy virtues – trying to focus more on eulogy virtues rather than the résumé ones.

-Meditation gets you back to the eulogy virtues because the ego is a bully that is going to lead you to the résumé ones. You know it’s the ego if it is loud, all about yourself and not extending beyond your own gratification in any specific moment.

-Heard from the person above that this musical is supposed to be really great. Have you seen it?

-Josh’s latest Museletter. I loved every word as per usual. Sign up. Trust.

-Carrie Fisher seemed way cool. Although I’ll admit I really only realized this after her death. But I loved this Fresh Air tribute episode with her, and this quote she said toward the end really stuck with me. Terry asked her about consequences to over-sharing and this was her flawless answer which haunts me and I agree with fully:

“oh I do over-share and I sometimes marvel that I do it. But it’s my way of trying to understand myself. I don’t know I get it out of my head. It creates community when you talk about private things and you can find other people that have the same things, otherwise I felt very lonely with the issues I had but when I shared about it I found others had them too.”

-My mom got me this inspiring little book for Christmas and I think it’s really cool.

-A very good article.

-I’ve happily been seeing quite a few movies lately and actually highly recommend all of them…

  • If you haven’t yet seen Moonlight you must. Run, don’t walk.
  • I really enjoyed LaLaLand and listening to the soundtrack when I’m in the mood is the gift that keeps on giving.
  • Just saw Jackie and thought it was so well done and captivating to see these historical events from her perspective. As someone who love and is fascinated by both history and the Kennedys I was super excited to see it.
  • I heard Manchester By The Sea was amazing and I’ve listened to enough interviews about it that I really want to see that one too now…  Have you seen the writer Kenny Lonergan’s early film You Can Count On Me? I want to watch that one soon too.

-I enjoyed this conversation of Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams as well.

-Speaking of conversation between women. I loved this one with this two.

-All 28 days of your cycle in 2 minutes.

-If you’re a RentHead like me you might like this. If you’re not, you’ll think it’s entirely cheesy.

-My 2016 gift guide in case you missed it and wanted to see it; or need to last minute buy for someone who unexpectedly bought for you and you didn’t know the two of you were on that level where you were exchanging…

16 Things I Tried in 2016

Today I have a special end of the year podcast episode. I recorded this episode last night on a whim as I was reflecting on all the things that have happened in the past year.  In many ways this episode is me ‘letting it out’ and sharing with you in audio format a final journal entry for the year. Below you will find a quick list of the 16 things I tried over the past year. I elaborate on each one more in the podcast so be sure to listen to the episode as well. And if you feel up to it, as a bonus exercise, grab a journal and take a few minutes to reflect and let out some of the things you tried this year too.

16 Things I tried in 2016 and suggest trying…

  1. Travel alone. Go on trips by yourself. Visit friends.
  2. Meditate. Learn and actually work it into your routine.
  3. Switch up your hair. Trust your hairstylist.
  4. Say Yes. Do things that you might on want to leave the house for. (dates, classes, meet ups,)
  5. Say no. Be protective of your time.
  6. Put happiness above health and don’t feel guilty about that. (spoiler alert: that actually is the healthier thing for you.)
  7. Make new friends and reconnect with the old friends.
  8. Walk. Walk. And walk some more…
  9. Make up games. Say jokes and puns when you think them. Be silly.
  10. Go to the movies, watch movies, and talk about movies.
  11. Cook healthy food and share it with people.
  12. Have sleepovers with everyone.
  13. Exercise in ways you actually like.  The best exercise for you is the one that is convenient for you.
  14. Listen to a lot of podcasts. They’re my favorite way to learn and feel less alone.
  15. Listen to a lot of music It will give your life a soundtrack.
  16. My ‘Go-To Cocktail’ for feeling good –>Read or listen to You Are A Badass & watch “HappyThankYouMorePlease”

welcome back.

I’ve done a Monthly Meanderings for a real long time. It’s a way for me to be your internet tour guide show you all the things I’ve read / heard / watched recently. Until next time keep in touch on Facebook & Instagram or maybe explore the archive of my podcast or read my book.

-Some election stand-up I really liked.

-She seems really cool & I liked reading this about embracing your flaws.

-A podcast I was on this month.

This makes me so happy. As someone who grew up listening to the Rent soundtrack and memorizing it when I was young, it makes me so happy to see talented performers from my generation who grew up with it too reviving it for the 20th anniversary of the show.

-Chill out to the sound of Wikipedia?

-I love her. & this entire yearbook is real cool.

-The most helpful thing I listened to about politics recently.

-Can’t wait to be back in LA in a couple weeks and go back here to eat. YUM.

-Navigating racial awkwardness

happy things.

-If you liked Stranger Things as much as I did… (trust me as I was surprised as anyone that I’d like a show about a monster as much as I did, but it was really a show about people so check it out) but if you watched it you MUST also watch the kids of Stranger Things on Fallon. This made me really happy.

-My friend and friend of the podcast Dr. Joy Jacobs made an online course for parents about how to identify red flags for eating disorders in your children. Please share with anyone you think it would help… thanks.

Love this on ideas and creativity. You catch ideas you don’t make them.

-Really excited about this TV adaptation.

-Looking forward to listening to this too.

-This episode 09 of the new podcast I found called ‘Meditations in the City’ with Elizabeth Reid is a must listen for anyone who like me, struggles to actually FEEL feelings in our bodies rather than just think them in our minds which is something my therapist pointed out to me recently that I’ve been trying to become more cognizant of. I like this podcast in general, this week’s guest on

-This article from Ann Friedman about peer mentoring was great. “… it’s hard to seek help in solving your problems when you’re pretending you don’t have any.”

-I really like everything about this.

-A lot of great quotes in this essay.
