If you want to be happy it’s simple – just be grateful.

As you know, this section of the blog, Gratitude for Today, is a column in the blog with a straightforward concept. I share what I am grateful for today & hopefully, by sharing what’s making me happy in the moment, I can inspire you to look at your own life and find a few things that are making you happy. So without further a-do here is the third installment of Gratitude for Today!

Here is what I feel Gratitude for Today:

{1} This book…

This book by my mentor, guru, and friend Gabrielle Bernstein! As I gushed about here, her newest book May Cause Miracles is a life-changer. While I’m grateful for the book, I’m even more grateful for the community it’s creating. I’m reading it with this amazing book club started by my dear friend Elizabeth.  I’m even more grateful that I’m reading it with my cousin. We happened to start the guidebook on the exact same day and are going through the book together. Today is gratitude day in the book and the affirmation for today is simply: “I am grateful for this moment.” So today when something feels good, your enjoying yourself, or things are going your way, just simply say this afirmation to yourself so you don’t miss that good moment.

{2} water…

This time of year when it’s so freezing, I feel the nastiness of dehydration more than ever, even in my skin. So remember to drink enough water. What I do is fill up a big water bottle and make sure I get it filled twice in the day. I always start my day with warm water with lemon & even sprinkle some detoxifying cayenne in there for some heat. Just make sure you’re getting enough, I know it’s hard to drink when it’s cold, so try some herbal tea, and you can get it from food too so amp up those fruits & vegetables! And if you’re still drinking caffeine, you need even more water as caffeine is dehydrating.

{3} soup….

Speaking of freezing, nothing warms me up like a hot cup of soup. While yes I’m a huge believer in the benefits of enzyme-rich raw foods, I think it’s all about balance and this time of year especially our body’s crave warming, yes cooked foods. I made this amazing vegan kale soup for my mom & I yesterday. I half made it up and half followed this recipe. Here’s my Pinterest board with great soup recipes & if you’re in the mood for a raw soup that you can heat using the Vitamix check out my recipe video here.

{4} Our Wellness Wonderland 2013 dance challenge…

I’ve had such an overwhelming response from people who are participating and loving our 2013 Dance Challenge on the blog. I’m so grateful we’re creating a bit of a community with this and we are all dancing through the winter together. I know it might seem silly at first, but the difference just a few minutes of committing to cardio exercise in dancing a day can make in overall health is phenomenal. However, the best part of dancing is that it won’t feel like you’re exercising and will just help you get out of your own head.

{5} sleep…

…just about, I passed the torch on teaching my early morning yoga classes & have been getting more sleep this week as a result. I can feel a huge difference in my overall wellness. Sleep hygiene is just as crucial as brushing your teeth or showering. You’ve heard it a million times, but it is best to sleep 7 to 10 hours per night and it’s optimal from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Have trouble falling asleep? It’s best to set a electronic bedtime for at least an hour before bed, meaning no TV or computer just before heading to dreamland. Here’s Dr. Frank Lipton’s 3 tips for better sleep. & some sleep advice from guru Gabby.

{6} the future…

Tomorrow is moving day. I’m headed to a new place & starting a new job with the great, socially-responsible company KIND Healthy Snacks. I’m embracing change and looking forward to what the future has to offer me. Stay tuned!
