160 | Julie Piatt on Community, Connection, Spirituality, Cooking, Hosting, Parenting and More! - Katie Dalebout

160 | Julie Piatt on Community, Connection, Spirituality, Cooking, Hosting, Parenting and More!

I started this podcast in 2013 from my apartment in Michigan. I recorded all of the episodes over Skype usually from my pajamas. This worked well, I met amazing people from all over the world all from the comfort of my own home. One of those amazing people  was Julie Piatt. She was one of my first podcast guests (here’s that episode) and ever since we’ve kept in touch yet we hadn’t actually met in person until this interview. Now that I’m in NYC, I decided I want to do more of my interviews in person since I think something different happens with non-skype eye contact. Since Julie was passing through NYC on her book tour for her new book The Cheese is Nuts she I was able to visit her where she was staying in Soho for an in person interview and a home cooked (by chef Julie) gluten-free spaghetti dinner with her and her wonderful photographer Leia. I loved this conversation. We get into the downside of social media, community, relationships, acknowledging the dark parts as well as the light parts within ourselves and others, understanding the difference between behaviors and the soul. Julie is the most nurturing person and mother so I spoke with her about her parenting strategy and experience which I found fascinating.  We also talk about cooking and bringing people together with community. I hope you love listening to this conversation as much as I loved having it. Tweet at us (here’s Julie) and let us know your thoughts.
