221 | Jenna Weiss-Berman of Pineapple Street Media on All Things Podcasting, Cultural/Media Criticism, The Value of Internships, Parenting, and more!

I discovered Jenna Weiss-Berman somewhere between  Another Round and Longform two shows she’s produced and I love.  I remember an interview she hosted for Longform years ago with her college friend Lena Dunham where they announced Lena was working with Jenna on an audio project, her podcast Women of the Hour. From that point on I’ve closely followed Jenna and watched listened as her career has expanded from director of audio at BuzzFeed to starting her own company Pineapple Street Media.  In this episode, we talk about risks of entrepreneurship, following your dreams…while also being realistic, criticism and how to use it beneficially, parenting, and of course podcasting at length, since she’s one of the greatest audio producers and story tellers of our time. Her company has produced podcasts with Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the New York Times. We get a bit inside baseball of the podcast industry which I found fascinating and geek out over public radio, the value of good internships/fellowships,  doing things you think are impossible, what makes a good podcast, podcast host, and interviewer. Jenna was as delightful to meet as her shows are to listen to.
