Why Gabby Can’t Be My Guru Anymore, Getting Real About Miracles Now

It’s no secret in Wonderland that I’m pretty into Gabrielle Bernstein, author, speaker, and  spiritual teacher to our generation.  Girl crush is an understatement, and even the words ‘mentor’ or ‘idol’ don’t do her justice. I’ve put her on quite the pedestal over my years of following her work. But I’ve now removed her from the pedestal I had her so highly on and stopped thinking of her as my idol.

Why? What happened?

Well…she told me to.

Releasing special relationships is major lesson she teaches, and one that I only recently understood.  She discusses how we often make people more specially or less special, constantly judging them.  We often make our romantic partners special & our mentors, and then look at them as better and separate from ourselves.  However, the concept Gabby teaches is that we are not separate, rather the light I see in her is a reflection of the light that is within me.

Now, loving her as much as I do this was real trippy for my ego to understand. But overtime, I learned from her that I am the guru. We are all our own guru.  Crazy right?

The first step to understand this is to “out” your ego, by letting the person you’ve made special know. When I had Gabby on my Podcast (you can hear the interview here) I outed my ego to her, letting her know I’ve made her pretty darn special. This was huge and I’m constantly working on this.

Now a little clarification on this. Does this mean I stop following her work? Absolutely not. Rather, it means I can dive into her work so deeply is because we are one and her light just happens to resonate with me deeply (and a ton of other peeps).

So without further ado. The book review you’ve all been waiting for. After giving my honest story with getting started with her last book May Cause Miracles a year ago, I knew I’d have to write about my experience with her latest book Miracles Now.

As a Gabby connoisseur, I feel I’ve ingested all of her work from her start as a spiritual teacher in 2009- through her books, lectures, workshops, group coaching, and four books later, it’s clear her wisdom is vast. I’ve immersed myself fully in studying Gabby’s complete body of work.1401944345

While I’ve loved every minute and her impact and inspiration- it has clearly taken time and I’ve built up quite a bit of knowledge, because I’ve devoted myself to studying her across platforms from every workshop, lecture, interview, blog post, and book.  After all of that, I’ve accrued vast wisdom.

I know what you’re thinking… you’d love the wisdom & peace I’ve gained from her work- but immersing yourself in a full out Gabby Bernstein intensive course is not for you, or you simply don’t have time, or perhaps you crave that wisdom now- like right NOW.  You want those Miracles NOW.

Well you’re in luck because Gabby’s latest book is literally that. Miracles Now is all if the amazing lessons, wisdom, tools, meditations, and advice she’s been teaching in her workshops, lectures, and books for years organized into one big book.

I know what you’re thinking again, (I legit read your mind right?), that sounds like a lot!  Well the truth is, it is and it would be overwhelming, however, Gabby makes it so digestible, by breaking each tool into an individual lesson (108 of them to be exact) that can all be boiled right down to a 140 character summary (yep Tweetable and all!).  You don’t even need to go in order.  The coolest part of this book is it can be a reference book to all things Gabby and I’m using it as my “happiness tool belt.”

I was truly blown away by this book. It’s a beautiful collage of all the things she teaches, in one beautiful presentation. If you’re a Gabby connoisseur myself, you’ll find so much unique content I’ve never seen or heard before. Having followed her as my guru for years, I can safely say I’ve seen all her tricks & this book brought up so many new ones I wasn’t expecting and now love.

Bottom-line: all 108 tools are just so damn helpful.

Above all, it’s a blast to read! Self-development can be so serious, but reading (or listening as I did) to this book is a blast.  She makes it fun & even mentions “Friends” and is just so darn relatable- her specificity with anecdotes and examples makes you fly through it!  The coolest part of all, is how the entire book is interactive she refers you online to corresponding videos and shareable posts, to build community around the miracles now hashtag.

So let’s make this a trend, because it’s rad. Thank you @Gabbybernstein you did it again with #MiraclesNow {tweet that now!}

Gabby, you are the guru…no wait I am…but I still adore you.

Gratitude for Today | Grateful for being under the weather

This week I got a bit sick. Straight up ill, my stomach kept me up all night. As I was keeled over in the bathroom at 4am feeling icky, I thought of a line from my guru Gabrielle Bernstein. Gabby says every situation in our lives is perfect because what happens is either what we want or if not it is a lesson to learn and then teach.  The greatest lesson she teaches is that in a situations that appear negative that lesson may be difficult to see, but it is always there.

So in that moment feeling sick and alone at 4 am in the bathroom I thought of this Gabby lesson and asked the Universe to help me discover that lesson quickly please because I was so focused on feeling icky I could not see a lesson in sight, just stomach flu. When I got back in bed finally the lesson came to me, what I would learn & teach from my experience of being sick in the middle of the night…

When we’re sick we are hyper-aware of our body. Fo instance, when you’ve just had the stomach flu or food poisoning, you would never stuff yourself over full of crap, rather you listen to what your stomach is asking for and give your body exactly what it needs, nothing more, nothing less.

Why do we stop that extreme self-care after we start to feel better? Why do we stop listening when our bodies our functioning optimally?

Listening to our body is crucial and they usually speak to us pretty softly, so we really have to tune in. Getting ill is just your body yelling at you to listen to it and give it what it needs & wants. We completely take care of our bodies to heal ourselves from illness, but rather than waiting for that screaming message from our bodies lets listen to its much softer everyday voice so illness isn’t needed for us to hear our body’s messages and honor them. With care, rest, and healthy foods.

Be as aware of your body when you are healthy as when you are sick. Take care of yourself. Put self care first.
